Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties
A 501(c)(3) affiliated corporation of the Virginia Tech Foundation
In coordination with LINK+LICENSE+LAUNCH, VTIP serves the Virginia Tech community to protect inventions and ensure intellectual property developed at Virginia Tech is transitioned to market where it can deliver societal and economic benefit.

We help discoveries reach markets where they drive business growth, seed new enterprises, and enable economic prosperity.
A Technology Engine
Virginia Tech’s $500M+- per-year research portfolio spans engineering and life sciences, as well as social sciences, policy, and creative arts. Through our use-inspired, diversified research capabilities, we support all major federal agencies. Nearly 15 percent of expenditures derive from corporate sponsors, providing faculty and partners opportunities to collaborate on cutting-edge, applied research and development.
The result: everyday, faculty, students, and staff generate inventions with important market and societal applications. VTIP is here to support the transition of discoveries by shepherding inventions through patenting and license negotiation. We bring extensive experience in intellectual property management and transactions and offer business-friendly terms to streamline the process and create win-wins.
