Gateway Schedule

Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect at Gateway. We’ll have representatives from each college giving information sessions, student-led campus tours, and information on student life programs.

Arrive on time

We highly recommend that you take full advantage of your trip to Blacksburg by allowing yourself the benefit of the entire program.

Vital information about admission to Virginia Tech is provided in the information session, and more specialized information sessions throughout the rest of the day. We have developed a program that is condensed into an informative and activity-packed few hours.

Arrive at Virginia Tech—Registration and check-in

Host Introduction and Matching

Guests will meet their assigned host and take luggage to residence halls.

3:40 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.

President’s Reception

Lane Stadium
Virginia Tech’s president, Dr. Timothy Sands, will be hosting a reception in the President’s Skybox in Lane Stadium. Senior administrators from campus will be present to discuss opportunities and resources at Virginia Tech.

6:00 P.M.

Free Time with Host

During this free time, be sure to grab dinner with your host! There will also be optional events taking place during this time for you and your host to attend.

6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.

Cultural and Community Centers Introduction and Tour

Join staff from the Cultural and Community Centers to learn more about the centers and how they help create community among Virginia Tech students. Centers include the American Indian and Indigenous Community Center, Asian American Cultural Center, Black Cultural Center, El Centro, Intercultural Engagement Center, and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

Bowling, billiards, and games. Cosmic bowling starts after 9 pm.

Dance party with Virginia Tech students featuring VT alumnus and Parcore Production's MikeETheDJ

Hokie Focus is an exclusive event for students offered freshman admission to Virginia Tech. Gateway is structured so that students will participate in many Hokie Focus events on Sunday, April 8th.

Students will sit and dine with Faculty and Staff from campus. Also, representatives from student organizations will be present to speak about the many opportunities to get connected as a student at Virginia Tech.

Multicultural Performance Showcase

Haymarket Theatre, Squires Student Center
Entertaining performances that will also showcase the diverse student organizations at Virginia Tech.
