The Smith Career Center on the corner of Washington Street and West Campus Drive.

The Garnett E. and Patsy T. Smith Career Center (Career Services Building) provides space for Career and Professional Development. More than 24,000 students use the office’s services each year, and more than 3,000 employers have registered with the center.

 

Garnett E. and Patsy T. Smith

The Smith Career Center is named for Garnett Elwood and Patsy Thomas Smith. Garnett Smith, who retired as CEO of Advance Auto Parts in 2000, has served on the board of the Virginia Tech Foundation. The Smiths have supported the Art Museum of Western Virginia and several Virginia Tech entities. Garnett Smith was named one of Roanoke's 50 Most Influential People, served on the board of the United Way of Roanoke, and has held every office in the Pulaski Jaycees.

Building History

The building was completed in spring 2004. It was dedicated as The Garnett E. and Patsy T. Smith Career Center on Oct. 20, 2007.
