Whether to support your workforce goals or grow your business, LINK has been founded to support the needs of our industry partners. We can help.
We develop the best and brightest.
We are the largest producer of STEM graduates in Virginia and the fourth-largest producer of engineers in the nation. With more than 100 bachelor degree programs and 150 master’s and doctoral degree programs across nine colleges, we develop tomorrow’s leaders in innovation and industry.
Our heritage as a land-grant institution, our efforts for InclusiveVT, our commitment to use-inspired programs, and our designation as one of six senior military colleges in the country have laid the foundation for a strong, value-centered culture.
Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), is lived by our community and distinguishes the university as one of the top recruiting schools in the nation.
Together, we deliver innovations that make a difference.
Be part of Virginia Tech’s $520 million+ research enterprise and tap into the experts, resources, and students to deliver cutting-edge, use-inspired research.
Whether addressing near-term technical challenges or investing in the future, partners gain access to critical competencies, facilities, clearances, and research teams.
Serving industry and government — and sometimes both, jointly — Virginia Tech supports hundreds of companies as well as major agencies.
Research and talent development are integrally related. We partner with companies to shape curricula and deliver experiential learning opportunities, internships, and graduate assistantships to ensure that Virginia Tech graduates are prepared to meet the demands of our partner companies and their rapidly evolving high-tech workforce.
We streamline the path from discovery to market.
As a leading applied research university, Virginia Tech generates groundbreaking inventions and discoveries every day.
At LINK, we cultivate an inclusive environment of scientific and entrepreneurial excellence and bridge connections from Virginia Tech’s research community to industry and startups by strategically evaluating, protecting, and licensing technology.
We engage industry, entrepreneurs, experts, and investors to transfer knowledge, license intellectual property, and start new ventures. Together, we promote the progress of science and technology and ensure that discoveries and inventions reach markets where they can support regional, state, and global economic development and return value to inventors and the university to fund additional research.

We jump-start the future.
Thriving university programs, such as those within the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, do not happen by accident. Launched more than 25 years ago with 15 employees, VTTI is now the largest transportation institute in the nation, with a staff of 475 and $110 million in infrastructure.
By partnering with Virginia Tech, companies gain access to state-of-the-art facilities like those within VTTI and the Biocomplexity Institute. Our infrastructure and expertise — built in response to pressing education and research needs — provides leverage for partners looking to de-risk existing programs, test and validate technologies and programs, and launch new efforts at scale quickly.
We connect partners to deliver good globally.
Hundreds of industry partners have benefitted from being part of the Virginia Tech community.
Industry affiliate programs, for example, offer companies platforms for specialized recruiting, pre-competitive research, and participation in communities of practice. Naming rights for professorships, fellowships, facilities, and competition-associated equipment build on the affinity of our community for Virginia Tech, supporting corporate branding and sustainability goals in the process.
Working alongside Virginia Tech faculty and students through on-site research programs and sabbaticals, industry partners gain new skills while delivering results at home.
Company champions are provided a wide range of engagement opportunities, including advisory board service, entrepreneurial activities, and teaching. Impact does not happen in isolation.
