2021 State of the University

The Virginia Tech community is invited to join President Tim Sands virtually as he delivers his fifth State of the University Address on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.  A link to the live video stream will be posted to this page and will be available from the Virginia Tech homepage.

During the address, President Sands will share the progress on the strategic priorities while responding to the pandemic with a solid mission and promise for the university’s future.

    2020 will be remembered for challenges the likes of which have not been seen for generations. The year will also be remembered for the way we met those challenges. We developed thoughtful and pragmatic plans, adapted to changing circumstances, and safely served the needs of the community while maintaining a focus on our mission.

Virginia Tech President Tim Sands delivered his first State of the University address in 2016 at the Moss Arts Center.

Sands outlined the university’s history of bold successful moves, and challenged the university community to advance as a national and global leader. He spoke in front of a large audience, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni.

Story: President Sands shares aspirations for Virginia Tech to become a global land-grant university

In an August letter to the Virginia Tech community, President Tim Sands welcomed students, faculty, and staff to join him at the 2017 State of the University. Doors open at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. A student performance will begin around 3:15 p.m., and the address will begin at 3:30 p.m., in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre of the Street and Davis Performance Hall within the Moss Arts Center.
