Commencement FAQs

When is the spring ceremony?

University Commencement will be online May 14. Updates will be posted to vt.edu/commencement as details are finalized.

How can I purchase graduation regalia?

Regalia is available at the University Bookstore, Volume Two Bookstore, and Hokieshop.com.

How do I get my cords?

Because cords come from the colleges and units, check with them about how they are handling cords.

How do I purchase honor sashes?

Honor sashes are available at the University Bookstore. If you are in Blacksburg, you can purchase your sash at the bookstore.

If you need your sash shipped to you, please order online at Hokieshop.com.

I’ve purchased my cap and gown, but I’d like to return them. How does that process work?

Caps and gowns can be returned with the cost of shipping deducted for any sealed cap and gown packages. Please make sure the package is sealed or you will not receive your refund.

If you purchased a cap and gown online for pickup, please contact the bookstore to process your return. Email is the best way to reach the bookstore. You can find the complete Hokie Shop return policy online.

Customers with specific questions may contact the bookstore by phone, email, or send a message directly from the return policy page. The University Bookstore can be reached at 540-231-5991 or virginiatech@bkstr.com. The address to ship returns is 115 Kent St., Blacksburg, VA 24061

Have return guidelines changed?

Yes. We are not accepting regalia that has been open, worn, or visibly used. Due to health concerns, opened regalia will not be accepted.
