Mining Engineering

All students wishing to study this major should apply to General Engineering.

Mining engineering applies science, technology, and management for the development and recovery of mineral and energy resources and includes elements of other disciplines such as geology, metallurgy, geotechnical engineering, and surveying. The field offers a wide range of specialties and areas of study to include mineral exploration, evaluation, development, extraction, mineral processing, and environmental management. Students are exposed to an extensive curriculum of traditional mining engineering theory while also developing critical skills in laboratory research, written and spoken communication, and professional leadership and ethics. Graduates of the program enjoy excellent job placement, with opportunities to work in construction materials, precious metals, phosphates, mineral sands, coal and fossil fuel, and many other commodities.
