Classical Studies

The Classical Studies major focuses on the languages and cultures of ancient Rome and Greece. There are two components to the major: classical studies and classical languages. Classical studies courses include mythology, history, art, literature, religion including biblical studies, philosophy, modern uses of the classical past, and archaeology. The languages courses involve the study of Latin and ancient Greek. Virginia Tech is an excellent place to study classics and our flexibility allows you to shape the major to fit a variety of goals. There are many study abroad opportunities for students like the VT in Rome and Switzerland program. Students can also study abroad at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens and the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, as well as embark on archaeological digs in Cyprus, Italy, Bulgaria, and Romania.
