Fall Visitation provides students and their parents with an up-close look at Virginia Tech. It's an excellent opportunity for them to explore the offerings of an institution that's ranked among the top 30 public universities in the nation! Fall Visitation was created to extend invitations to our pipeline programs and pre-college programs throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., and North Carolina.
While this program is designed to attract underrepresented high school seniors and/or first-generation students, we welcome the participation of parents of students who have a potential interest in Virginia Tech. Our program activities are planned using a multicultural perspective though we place special emphasis on the African-American, Hispanic, and Native American population.
What is a "Group Code"?
Fall Visitation is an invitation-only program. Each participating group has received a specific code which will be provided to you by your group's coordinator. Each group code is unique and is not to be shared. If you have any questions regarding your group code, please direct them to your group's coordinator.
If you register with an incorrect or fraudulent code, your registration will be canceled.
What if I don't have a "Group Code" but would still like to participate in Fall Visitation?
While the primary aim of Fall Visitation is to invite students who participate in our pipeline programs and pre-college programs to campus, we often have spots left after those students have registered. If you would like to be considered for one of these spots (if any are available), you are welcome to add your name to the waitlist. Please note that we will not know if we have spots available until two weeks prior to the event.
Fall Visitation is always coordinated with our Open House event. Similarities exist in the two programs, but they are not the same. At the general information session of Open House, guests get to hear what life at Tech is like, from academics to student life. Participants get to tour campus and attend an information session specific to the major of their choice.
To best utilize the Open House visit, your students should identify a program of study for which they have the greatest interest. During the Open House, they will be escorted to a presentation from the college representing that area of interest. This will require your group to be separated by interest and the students may be responsible for getting around with limited assistance.
Even though your group will separate for Open House, we will reconnect for lunch with other Fall Visitation guests and prepare for our closing activities.
All Fall Visitation guests are automatically registered participants in the Open House. Therefore, they DO NOT need to register for Open House.
The Fall Visitation program provides an evening orientation program from a multicultural perspective. It includes:
- a student panel
- evening entertainment
- an on-site review of their college application
Day two of the program merges with Open House and concludes with lunch and a program evaluation.
All Fall Visitation guests must register through their participating pre-college program and pay a registration fee. The cost to participate in this program is $20 per student or $40 for one student/one parent. Due to space limitations, only one parent may attend.
Transportation and Lodging
We have reserved motor coach transportation for your students, chaperones, and parents. Please be aware of the fact that it is shared transportation with other pre-college programs. Therefore, please provide an estimate of the number of participants you intend to bring. Once you register, we will contact you with information regarding departure points and times.
