Rich earned his Bachelor's degree at Virginia Tech and was a member of the Corps of Cadets, earning a commission in the Navy through the Virginia Tech Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. He served in the Navy for 28 years before joining Undergraduate Admissions.

Territory: Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Roanoke, Salem and Lynchburg (VA) and south-central Virginia.
