Admissions Associates

The 'WHAT'

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA) is committed to helping realize the university goal of increasing enrollment of underrepresented and underserved students. To that end, we reinvented delivery of systems and programs offered to prospective students beginning in the 2017-18 admissions cycle.

One of the major overhauls was to our application process and review. We now offer students the opportunity to apply with either the Coalition Application or the CommonApp. This allows students options in choosing whichever application platform best fits their needs. Also, in consultation with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), the OUA implemented a true and measurable holistic approach of reviewing applicants by incorporating a non-cognitive review. This approach is evidence based with over 25 years of research.

The 'WHY'

With a growing number of applications – approximately 45,000 first-year and transfer applications received for fall 2021 -- and to ensure a high quality, unbiased review of those applications, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions now invites outside readers to join us. By including more perspectives in this process, it lowers the chance of reader bias.

The 'WHO'

We currently have approximately 400 trained Ut Prosim readers. However, our office is soliciting additional reader support from YOU because we believe it is critical that the more we can include various perspectives into the evaluation of the non-cognitive features for each applicant, the stronger the review will be. The request is for you to give several hours each week from October through January.

The 'WHEN' and the 'WHERE'

A one-day training is required to receive the designation of Admissions Associate. The trainings are offered virtually this year and will be determined in the near future.

The registration for the training is required and limited. If the training dates do not work for you but you would like to serve the University in this capacity, contact Jane Todd.
